As part of our continuing commitment to serve you, we occasionally bring you book reviews to encourage you in your Christian walk. This week's book review: Jesus Calling by Sarah Young.

Here's a preview: "I first experienced the Presence of God in a setting of exquisite beauty....It was late winter and the noonday sun was warm enough for sunbathing but the depth of the snow kept it from melting. Brilliant sunlight reflecting from pure white snow was cleansing my mind of the darkness that had held it captive for years..." Thus launches a dialogue and encounters that the reader can only call amazing.

Jesus Calling captures the reader with its elegant longing for God. In return, He speaks back, giving encouragement to the reader and the author, to seek Him. Each page speaks to you, calls to you, stays with you. Jesus Calling is a book worth having in your library. If you've found yourself wanting more of God and just can't find a way, Jesus Calling is the book you need.

This book is one of my favorites. I read it at least once a year and have personally recommended it to others. If deeper intimacy with God is your desire, read Jesus Calling. It's what the Doctor ordered!

We've made a commitment to bring you encouragement throughout 2012!  In order to do that, we believe it would be helpful to you to share a few books and resources that could strengthen your walk. Here's our first book review for the new year.

The Harbinger by Jonathan Cahn

No single event in recent history has shaken the foundation of America quite like the events that occurred on 9/11. Even a decade later, many Christians aren't sure how to process what took place. Do we qualify this as judgment or just a tragic event? What does it mean for our future and how can we pray for our country? Jonathan Cahn's book provides historical and spiritual insight that may astound you.

I spent my holidays pouring through the pages of this book, devouring the information that I found there. I felt confirmed and comforted by reading what I had suspected, but I confess, I had nothing like the revelation given to Johnathan before reading the Harbinger. The book unfolds like a true and remarkable story, detailing the prophetic process that Jonathan experienced that led him to unearth the 9 harbingers that began in Isaiah 9:10. Each harbinger is a warning, a sign meant to bring our nation to repentance. Astoundingly, these 9 harbingers were revealed once before in ancient Israel, before the destruction of Jerusalem.

To try and summarize the book here in this meager book review would do it an injustice. I encourage you to arm yourself with information. Read the book and take comfort in knowing that God is in control. The book is a page turner. You won't want to skip around and you can't cheat and go to the end because there is too much meat in between the covers. It's only 194 pages long, but as long as it needs to be to tell this story and give this warning.

If you sense that America is in trouble, you need to read the Harbinger. For your convenience, we've placed the book in our bookstore or you can simply click on the book cover icon to the right of this post. It's a good way to start your new year and makes a good addition to your bookstore.
