The older I get, the more I cling to spiritual simplicity. To love God without concern for a doctrine, to "run off and play" in His presence without worry, to whisper secrets to Him like a child would confide in a loving Father -- this is heavenly to me. And to so many others.

Speaking to a friend recently who finished reading my book, The Prophet's Code, I was reminded of how complicated we Christians have made it. She said, "You make everything sound so simple. If being a Christian were truly that simple, I could be a good one!" I wrote her back imploring her to serve God; that living for Christ, loving him, spending time with him was indeed that simple. We, believers, well meaning or otherwise, have allowed pride to keep the seeking away.

Pride in our denomination, pride in our pastor, pride in our church, pride in our spiritual superiority. Even pride in our victories has kept the hungry away at times. It ought not be!

I say, be simple today! Show spiritual simplicity to others. Don't go on and on about how you "ran the aisles" or spend an hour describing what you learned at seminary to the spiritual starving. Open your eyes! Speak of the simple things like having peace, love and joy. Be simple in your faith and you'll become a greater evangelist than you could ever believe.
