_Alabama storms cause broken branches! I can’t tell you the number of times we’ve surveyed our property after a big one only to find numerous broken branches littering the ground. Once a branch is broken from the tree, it is only good for a bonfire. You can lay a broken branch in the bough of the tree, but it will never live again. Once broken, the branch is dead--lifeless. It’s ugly, colorless leaves and lack of growth will eventually reveal its true nature!

I have noticed that the branches that break the easiest are half-dead, growing awkwardly or are growing too close to other branches. We are like the branches of a big tree; God is the tree, we are the branches. The storms of life howl and blow, buffeting us regularly. Any of us could tumble down if pressed hard enough. How do you avoid becoming the victim of one of life’s storms?
  • Do not be half-dead. Ask the Spirit of God to renew you, awaken you. Live fully in God. Shake off complacency.
  • Do not grow awkwardly. Keep balanced with prayer and Christian fellowship. You will need them to grow straight and sure.
  • Do not lean on others to carry your burdens. Depend on the tree for strength. When you lean on others, your branch weakens and eventually you will crack. In addition, you could be the downfall of another branch!
